$64.955 - $83.813 - $102.671The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
Plans, directs, and coordinates the development and implementation of programs and services consistent with the mission of Sharp HealthCare. Responsible for the strategic planning, business development and growth, and quality improvement plans for the stroke program. Collaborates regularly with other hospital Stroke Program Managers and/or Stroke Nurse Practitioners to ensure continued system focus. Is a key member of the system stroke collaborative council responsible for strategic planning, implementation and fiscal oversight of the program. Is an active participant in the County of San Diego Stroke Consortium. Evaluates and coordinates clinical research studies for the specialty service lines in conjunction with medical directors. Coordinates and supports physicians, administration and management in the integration of financial, clinical, and quality issues for the specialty service line to achieve high quality service in an efficient and economic manner. Develops collaborative relationships with key physicians, medical directors, medical groups, and the community to ensure a continuum focus and enhance the image of the Hospital and Sharp HealthCare. Provides leadership in forecasting future trends for service lines. Maintains the integrity of the stroke registry integrity to meet the Joint Commission, County of San Diego, and State of California submission requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing Or
- Bachelor's Degree In business or health related field.
- 5 Years Management, service line or program experience.
- Experience and the ability to manage multiple groups, interact productively with varying levels of personnel and staff, and provide program direction and development.
- California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED

Essential Functions
- Business and program development
Identifies ideas and insights into clinical improvements to generate new business or improved services for service lines.
Participates/facilitates in the development of Sharp HealthCare service line continuum, ensuring the incorporation of quality and financial outcome indicators.
Maintains ongoing analysis of service line performance and monitors trends and opportunities. Initiates and recommends service and quality improvements to meet changing market needs.
Generates ideas and insights into marketing opportunities for service lines.
Incorporates knowledge of external factors and healthcare policies, which affect reimbursement for services.
Collaborates with marketing to promote new programs and services.
Collaborates with the Vice President of Ortho/Neuro Services to provide strategic planning and implementation for new services. - Communication and leadership
Promotes system focus in quality monitoring; internal and external benchmarking, and vendor negotiations.
Collaborates on a routine basis with specialty service line providers at all Sharp HealthCare facilities.
Facilitates information sharing and project coordination where appropriate between facilities.
Develops collaborative relationships with stroke program staff and other stroke specialists, departments, hospitals, healthcare committees, physicians, and other agencies to facilitate and support quality services and financial viability at Sharp HealthCare.
Establishes and maintains a communication system with individuals/agencies providing or supporting service line and program development.
Uses communication strategies with individuals and groups that result in achievement of intended outcomes.
Facilitates the integration of appropriate personnel into high performing teams. - Financial management
Assists the Vice President of Ortho Neuro Services with development of operational budget with other stroke program coordinators based on current and future needs to enhance development of the service line.
Performs variance analysis on quality and financial outcomes.
Identifies cost reducing and/or revenue enhancing opportunities. Makes recommendations and coordinates interventions with physicians, medical groups, managers, administrators, and staff. - Regulatory compliance
Implements Disease Management Teams at the Hospital using clinical, quality and cost data to drive rapid cycle improvements in the stroke population.
Guides and assists in the development of quality indicators and monitors/analyzes achievement of benchmark and best practice goals.
Assures awareness of local, state, and national standards that affect programs/service line and/or departments.
Collaborates with healthcare team to implement action plan to enhance quality outcomes across the continuum.
Identifies and confronts issues which affect quality of service; collaborates with physicians, administration, medical groups, and staff to resolve these issues.
Manages stroke registry ensuring data is submitted to meet Joint Commission, County of San Diego and State of California requirements.
Develops and maintains stroke program quality plan. Participates in hospital quality improvement efforts. Ensures program preparation for regulatory agencies.
Develops data extraction quality studies and reports results of data quality and outcomes based on developed action plans to Quality Council, Leadership committee, and appropriate Medical committees as needed. - Staff development
Ensures that staff develops a plan of action that meets the educational needs of the staff and physicians and evaluates the organization's progress toward benchmark goals. - Training and education
Effectively provides ongoing constructive feedback, teaching, training, and support to all stroke service line staff, nursing staff, and managers.
Provides in-services to nursing staff on outcomes of Core Measure compliance results and seeks input from staff in the development of action plan to improve their performance.
Collaborates with each department to develop an education plan in order to increase staff compliance and engagement on all applicable metrics.
Ensures that appropriate competency and orientation are provided to new staff in the program.
Assists with training the staff.
Identifies education needs of both staff and physicians and responds to needs.
Ensures the staff appropriately assesses the completion of all charts with compliance to metrics being measured.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must possess excellent communication and management skills.
- Ability to produce and utilize clinical, quality and financial data for project tracking and outcomes achievement.
- Flexibility to deal and manage change.
- Technical knowledge of stroke and neurology services.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of computer systems, information management and data analysis.
- Understands and is able to articulate the principle of disease management and case management models.
