$71.822 - $92.673 - $113.525The stated pay scale reflects the range that Sharp reasonably expects to pay for this position. The actual pay rate and pay grade for this position will be dependent on a variety of factors, including an applicant’s years of experience, unique skills and abilities, education, alignment with similar internal candidates, marketplace factors, other requirements for the position, and employer business practices.
What You Will Do
Masters or doctoral prepared with Clinical Nurse Specialist Certificate who plans, directs and executes all Magnet initiatives to ensure the goals of the program are met. The individual applies clinical expertise in the evidence-based nursing practice within three spheres of influence; 1) patient/client, 2) nurses/nursing practice, 3) organization/system. Role includes clinical expert, educator, researcher, and consultant. Leadership skills (system thinker and change agent) are role assumptions. Recommends and sets standards for Magnet Program, establishes appropriate processes, measures outcomes, and ensures program requirement completion.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctorate in Nursing.
- 3 Years Experience as a CNS in an acute care hospital.
- 1 Year Experience in a Magnet Program supporting role for a Magnet designated hospital.
- Experience as a clinical expert in theory and/or research based nursing practice within the Magnet Program requirements that functions in the following roles: leader, consultant, mentor, change agent.

Essential Functions
- Nurses and nursing practice
Acts as a resource and content expert in the ANA Magnet Program for the nursing division.
Promotes a model of nursing care that emphasizes professional role accountability, critical thinking, and collegiality with physicians and other health care professionals.
Provides input to nursing leaders and staff nurses regarding areas for improvement in clinical practice.
Manages dissemination of information around Magnet initiatives via e-mail, newsletter articles, hardcopy handbook and presentations.
Designs and/or supports evidence-based programs and/or processes that improve nursing practice.
Expands the practice of nursing through ongoing generation and acquisition of scientific knowledge.
Fosters staff knowledge and skill in research, research utilization, and evidence-based practice,
Provides leadership as role model and/or consultant to develop/retain professional nursing staff.
Creates an environment that stimulates self-learning and reflective nursing practice.
Provides direction, oversight and collaboration with nursing and interdisciplinary colleagues (educators, senior specialists, shared decision making councils, etc.) in assessing the Magnet Program needs and designing educational programs that:
* Are based on evidence that improves nursing practice and clinical outcomes.
* Incorporate theoretical frameworks to advance nursing practice (novice to expert, reflective learning, adult learning theory, etc.).
* Foster the integration of the professional role of the nurse and advanced clinical decision making.
* Evaluates outcomes in nursing practice for effectiveness and alignment with the Magnet Program requirements.
* Provides input to nursing practices for the alignment with the Magnet Program requirements. - Patient satisfaction
Uses advanced theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise in a specialty to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the care of patients/populations.
Develops, implements, and/or supports evidence based interventions for individuals and populations, that achieve desired patient outcome.
Evaluates outcomes of nursing interventions for individuals and populations for effectiveness, patient responses, efficiency, customer satisfaction and fiscal impact.
Consults with interdisciplinary team on clinical issues to achieve optimal patient outcomes. - Professional development
Develops and implements Magnet communication strategies throughout the organization/system to ensure accurate information regarding program purpose, initiatives, improvement strategies, and outcomes.
Implements change management strategies to ensure successful execution of the Magnet program.
Oversees and coordinates the Magnet application, manages the Magnet document submission, site visit and/or re-designation processes.
Manages the program within documented timeframe(s).
Develops materials, presentations and reports on program for Senior Leadership, Management, and front line staff, providing education, and developing strategies to respond to new program requirements and opportunities for improvement supported by external benchmarking. - Program evaluation
The Magnet Program/Clinical Nurse Specialist provides leadership and oversight to the planning, integration, implementation, and evaluation of Magnet program initiatives.
The Magnet Program/Clinical Nurse Specialist provides oversight to ensure that the organization milieu reflects the internalization of the five components of Magnet.
